Dr. Stacy Drake is a nationally recognized expert in forensic death investigations.  Her research focuses on impacting populations at risk through the reduction of preventable causes of death. Dr. Drake’s past work as an emergency medical service provider and firefighter, trauma nurse, and DI has challenged me to focus on ways to reduce such deaths. She brings a blend of prehospital, trauma nursing, and death investigation practice and research experience to the team. As an active forensic nurse researcher, she has served as the principal investigator on teams with fellow researchers to address opportunities to improve death investigation. Over the span of her career, She has conducted several studies that utilized multiple sources of public data, and, in turn, developed collaborative relationships with various interprofessional agencies, e.g. medical examiners, law enforcement, emergency medical services agencies and community leaders, e.g. health department, county, and city. She has also developed methods to integrate and link public data, conducted both quantitative and qualitative projects, and co-authored and presented these efforts. She is actively involved within the community of death investigation to translate the findings of her research into addressing the health and safety of death investigators. Within death investigations, she has had a direct impact of pediatric sudden unexpected death and how the investigation and autopsy findings add value to patient safety and hospital quality improvement efforts, and training for forensic nurses as well as injury prevention.
