Dr. Nancy Fahrenwald serves as Dean of the A&M College of Nursing and, for over 25 years has been involved in nationally recognized initiatives, programs and research projects that address the healthcare needs of underserved populations confronted with disasters and emergencies. Dr. Fahrenwald’s research expertise is in working with rural and underserved communities in the design, testing, and dissemination of behavioral interventions related to health promotion. Her research employs a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach to address health disparities for numerous chronic health conditions. This approach involves the community in all aspects of the research, including innovative approaches to recruitment and retention of research participants. Dr. Fahrenwald’ s expertise and interests are aligned with working directly with poor, remote communities, nurse educators and researchers, and taking this information directly to state and federal policy experts to advocate for health policy and education policy level changes.
