Health communications research

Blanton’s research integrates principles of psychology into the study of effective health communication. His research examines intrapersonal and interpersonal factors that impact health-relevant decision making, with primary emphases focused on the development of strategies to reduce rejection of risk-prevention messages in adolescent and young adult populations.

He also conducts research in the area of science communication that is aimed at developing more effective strategies to inform the public on topics that might generate backlash or message rejection due to science politicization. His most recent research focuses on strategies to utilize virtual reality to deliver persuasive communications targeting youth populations.

He holds a doctoral degree in social psychology from Princeton University.
